I'm going to start by pointing out that I may not have all the information put on this page right away. I've decided to work on adding this a little at a time as I have the chance. That being said:
This project started based on a Rover5 design that began as a senior design project. After graduation, I took the software I had developed to the company that I now work for, Future Designs, Inc (FDI, www.TeamFDI.com). FDI enabled me to further develop this project by securing the funding to build an expanded version of this Rover for Renesas to use as a demo to bring to seminars.
We developed a custom interface board to connect one of our SYG-SOM modules (With Renesas Synergy S7G2 MCU on board) to the Dagu motor controller/chassis. The BGA version of the S7G2 MCU is pretty sweet at 240MHz, and provides quite a bit of I/O. So much so, that when the interface board was being developed, it experienced quite a bit of feature creep (I think our board designer was excited to work on this project). The 4 MB of on-chip memory allowed for seemingly unlimited potential for adding software features to control all the goodies, and the Synergy Software Package takes care of most if not all of the driver software, and includes the ThreadX RTOS with no up-front costs. This allowed me to write very robust application software within a month or so.
I'm going to try to post the schematics for the custom board, as well as the BOM for building it (a lot of surface mount parts, we design all our products for automated manufacture and testing). I'll also post the software as soon as I can. It wouldn't hurt if someone pushed me by expressing interest.
